[251] Screed City
[251]
05/22/2023 Monday. Coffee Table On Kitchen Table. Suite 515. Hilton Honors. Buffalo, New York.
There must have been a mix-up at the front desk because I got the suite and Gerk Gillette is down in steerage. Typical. One of the wifi things is called, prostitute available here. I set up a hot spot called, $40 Room 515. Op, knock on the door, gotta ditch.
Alright, now that the pipes are clean, where was I? Buffalo, the thinking man's Cleveland. It's tradition at this point. Doing the BU Sports Center inspection. Me and Scott. We even did it during the height of the pandemic. Or maybe not 2020, but 2021 for sure. I don't know. I don't remember. But it's a funny job. There is a whole bunch of plywood involved and cherry picker. And a score board. It's an easy one that pays well. I think. I don't know. We have been driving for over seven hours and it is 11:30 and I should be in bed, but I can't just hit the sack like that. I need to decompress a little bit.
This place is fancy. You can cook stuff if you want, there are pots and pans and a stove top. A full refrigerator and a dishwashing machine. A couch, two televisions. Two telephones and all the lamps you could ever need. Plus room service, wink-wink, if you catch my drift. The last week has been fun. Professor Curly came up to Vermont. We did some stuff. Drove down to Brattleboro to look at a house that was for sell, and also to check out the scene down there. We're not in the market for a house, but maybe one day. After that we went to DogBoy Beach for the inaugural Brats on the Beach. Grit, the Publisher, Putney, Lovey Dog, Scott, Sqweekill. Scott's Old Fashioned Crispy Wieners served with soggy onions and spicy mustard. Damn good. Hit's the spot every single time.
I think we did some other stuff too. Went to Middlebury at some point. TJ Maxx and Hannaford's. Ground beef was on sale $2.49 a lb. I love it when they do that. I almost joined the Farmers Market on Saturday because the beef was so cheap, but alas, I didn't have it in me. Plus it rained all day. Professor Curly bought some undies and some over the shoulder boulder holders. I bought some socks. The good ones. The black ones with the red POLO guy. Been waiting for over a year for those to come back. My patience paid off. I am like a spider that way. For socks. A sock spider, PC calls me.
I don't have very much to report. I was trying to decide what I should do tonight while I wound down. I was either going to write this or collate the Farmers Market stuff from last year so we can publish it later this year. Theresa wants to do another Joey Truman day in Montpelier. And as much as I would like to write Cooking Cockroach Part 2, I'm not really feeling it at the moment. I have been on a fiction kick that I don't want to stop just yet. And that was the other thing I thought I might want to write tonight, but I have new rules for that writing, and since I only have about 45 minutes to spare, I don't want to disrupt my process, so I chose writing this instead. The idea of collating right now is just too tedious to entertain. Lucky you, I suppose.
The Seven Daysies best of came out today. I am nominated for best published Vermont author. [You're welcome, Scott.] ISJ or inside joke as the bridesmaids say. Or not, he said if I spelled "Author," "Auther" one more time he was going to buy me a burrito and then watch me eat it then punch it out of my stomach. Aside from being threatened with physical violence, we have started the campaign to get me to the top of the list, so I am going to need your assistance to get me there. Seven Days is like the Village Voice, but Vermont-style. And if you win the award, Alexis Soloski will tweet out a poorly thought out and lazy tweet in your honor. And the New Yorker caption contest will take a second look at your submission before turning it down. I am telling you, it is real prestigious.
Anyway. I need to hit the sack. I gotta get up in six hours. Tschussy. Here is a picture of the sunset while we were driving on the interstate. The forest fires in northern Canada are giving us some good looking reminders of climate change.
